The Rise of Socialism

We have all heard the quotation “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing“. This quotation is from Edmund Burke an 18th century Irish political philosopher, Whig politician and statesman who is often regarded as the father of modern conservatism The quotation is as true today as it was the day it was written.

We as Americans and as a Nation face one of the greatest political challenges of our history. Which path we as citizens choose to follow will determine the future of this great Nation. Unfortunately liberties and freedoms, that our forefathers fought and died for, may hang in the balance, It is important for everyone to remember that once freedom is surrendered it it rarely returned.

Does this sound familiar?

A country with a high unemployment rate that removes people from the statistics in order to create a false sense of unemployment reduction. A country that runs huge deficits to fund national works projects, like infrastructure repair and replacement, in order to drop unemployment rates. The banning of labor unions. A country that's military spending is a large percentage of the GDP. A country that blames financial institutions and capitalism for its economic condition.

Ironically this is not referring to the United States but rather Germany at the rise of the National Socialist Party (NAZI). As a history buff I could not help but notice a striking similarity to what is occurring in the US today.

Today we have an unemployment rate (official version) of 8,5%, however those no longer looking for work have been deleted so the statistical results are inaccurate to say the least. We have infused billions into the states for infrastructure repair which further skews the unemployment numbers. We have spent billions of dollars on bailouts to no avail, We currently have defense spending at approximately 40% of GDP. Not to mention a budget (or lack of one) running in the red and a deficit spiraling out of control.

As one can see there is a dangerous parallel between what brought the Nazi's to power and what is occurring in the United States today. As with Germany, people are looking to the government for answers to our economic crisis. People have begun to accept the intrusions of the government, the wasteful spending on stimulus packages that don't work, fairy tales of who is to blame for the on-going crisis, and the trampling of our rights.

The last decade has seen numerous attacks on the civil liberties of every American, and the loss of basic rights afforded to every citizen under the Constitution. These include the Patriot Act and its blatant violations of the 4th Amendment, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and its violations of the 6th Amendment, ObamaCare and its health insurance mandate, and attacks on gun ownership and freedom of speech, just to name a few. In the words of Benjamin Franklin “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Unfortunately the assault on our way of life does not stop here. We have seen an unprecedented use of the Executive Order in an attempt to bypass Congress and impose one man's will on the multitudes. The Executive and Legislative branches were established as equals in our government. When one person begins making the laws without the consultation or approval of the elected legislators then you have a dictatorship. The redistribution of wealth is a core belief of socialism and we have all too frequently seen the attacks on the wealthiest Americans in the mainstream media as a mouthpiece for the current government. If there truly exists a tax inequality, then adding new taxes is not the solution fixing the current tax system is the solution. Our great nation is energy dependent on foreign oil, a vast quantity of this comes from countries that do not support our freedoms or way of life. This is not to say we don't have natural resources available in our country. We have the resources but pander to every environmentalist whim to receive the almighty political contribution. I submit to you, what is the value of clean air if you do not have the freedom to enjoy it. There has to be a balance between environmentally sound decisions and national security interests, besides we do not live in a bubble, every fossil fuel using country on the planet impacts the air and water quality.

This is an extremely important year for the future of America. The people will have to make the choice of which path we follow. I hope that we can get past labels (Democrat or Republican) and vote for someone based on their convictions and the content of their character. Our Nation is not without hope if everyone will choose a candidate that exemplifies the beliefs on which this Nation was founded. It is time to stand strong and stand united and demand adherence to the Constitution.
